Welcome to Volendam, my home. More than just a fishing village and the ‘Palingsound’, this historic town is located on the Markermeer, formerly known as the Zuiderzee. Volendam is surrounded by brightly coloured wooden houses, old fishing boats in the harbour and the smell of freshly caught fish from local fishermen.

From Hotel Spaander, you can walk or cycle along De Dijk, sample the catch of the day, enjoy a cup of coffee and immerse yourself in Volendam's authentic atmosphere.

‘I miss eating fresh fish, especially the smoked eel was my favourite. It's lovely to sit on the Dike and walk around Het Doolhof...’

Modern tip: Visit the old traditional cheese warehouse with its own bakery, Bakhuis De Koophandel, and taste this delicious delicacy for yourself! Edam is a short distance from Hotel Spaander and can be easily reached by bicycle, car or bus.

Surrounding Volendam

Discover idyllic Overleek, located between Monnickendam and Broek in Waterland. Hire a whisper boat and peacefully sail through the greenery, or explore the area by bike. End your afternoon at Overleek Tea Garden with a fresh cup of coffee and a piece of homemade apple pie. Pure relaxation in nature.
