Leendert's tips for Volendam and Surroundings
Hotel Spaander is ideally situated between hotspots for both business and leisure. The hotel can be easily reached by public transport and by car. Fancy a day out? How convenient! Tourist hotspots such as the Markemeer lake, Edam, Zaanse Schans, and Amsterdam are only a stone's throw away. Simply put: the ideal accommodation in heaps of history.
Volendam
Welcome to my home, Volendam. More than just a fishermen’s village and the "Palingsound".
The town I called home is full of history and is situated at the Markermeer Lake, once called the Suydersea. Volendam is lined with bright colourful wooden houses, old fishing boats in its harbour and freshly caught seafood from the local fishermen. From Hotel Spaander you can bike or walk along De Dijk, taste the catch of the day, drink coffee and soak in the authentic history of everything Volendam has to offer.
"I miss eating fresh fish, the smoked eel was my favourite, on the Dijk and walking around Het Doolhof".
You won’t be without things to do here in Volendam and you can always return to Hotel Spaander with a drink on the terrace or taking in the breath-taking views on your very own balcony.

Edam
More than just cheese!
"Not only did I attend the French school in Edam, but I also helped fishermen and farmers build shacks on the bank of the lake Ijsselmeer."
Edam was allowed to build it’s own harbour in 1357 and was once a very well-known trading village in the 17th Century. You can admire the rich history everywhere in the authentic Edam village and also in the Edam museum.
A modern day tip: Explore the old traditional cheese warehouse with their very own in house bakery, Bakhuis de Koophandel and of course try this delicious delicacy for yourself!
Edam is with easy reach of Hotel Spaander and can be visited by bike along the Dijk, car or bus.
